Triassic World
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM is clearly surpassing people’s expectations, so there was no need to wait a year for Asylum to come out with TRIASSIC WORLD. Here, the dinosaurs that have been resurrected are not island hopping but are instead defecting to a laboratory. They’re also terrorizing a much less elite and smaller cast. But other than these minor particulars, the same thing is all right, isn’t it?
To the Jurassic scientists, (yes I know why not Triassic?) that’s right; they have gotten dinosaurs back. What’s silly is that they did it to create a theme park. They plan to turn them into organ factories for human transplants. Naturally, though, the beasts escape and begin to munch on the staff taking care of the center. There is also a “Code 4” which locks them up this will flood the laboratory with toxic gas after 2 hours if the creatures are still alive or don’t get caught.
There’s not very much actually surprising about TRIASSIC WORLD, except for why use reptiles to grow human organs, when humans are mammals. And why dangerous predatory reptiles at that, TRIASSIC WORLD is actually one of the better films to come out of The Asylum. I understand although that’s not saying a hell of a lot, nonetheless it’s better than nothing.
Instead of looking fake, the CGI monsters look very on point, and some of the scenes sure look like practical effects might have been used. There’s some decent gore, including a head being pulled off, that keep the proceedings interesting. There’s even some reasonable attempts at building suspense along the way.
The acting, while nothing special, at least is satisfactory, which is somewhat of a rarity in Asylum films. Strangely, quite a few cast members on TRIASSIC WORLD hell vied on the last Asylum film, FLIGHT 666, that I reviewed. As to why the standard of acting is better in some of the films and worse in others, I don’t know.
Not a classic by any means, and certainly not one that is worth making an effort to seek out, TRIASSIC WORLD is a fairly pleasant way to pass some time. It is currently available on VOD and DVD with streaming VOD starting on 19th September 2019.
