End Of The World
What I find very entertaining is witnessing an independent project that would never go beyond a small audience. The performing artists are not the top of the billing list, but this does not imply that the outcome of less-known actors is poor. As a matter of fact, I must say that I was amazed at how much effort the actors in ‘End Of The World’ went to. Unfortunately, as the name implies, the end of the world was always going to come for the film itself, given that it was destroying itself before it even started.
Written by Michael Varrati with direction from Maximilian Elfeldt, “End of the World” is concerned with the entire population of the Earth which is caught in mass solar storms which results in mass tsunamis, volcanoes, and floods. Small and large metropolises are being erased out of the map, and a family is attempting to escape the dangers of an approaching storm.
But no matter where they run to, there is always a storm and the associated calamity lurking close behind them. But there is nothing to panic about the Fisher family just have it quite easy. The surroundings, emotions and even the fear of the hook is quite manageable. After all, their philosophy throughout their lives is to fight back, and such a daunting caveat as a solar storm is nothing more than a mosquito to their safety!
There is a wild storm brewing outside. Meredith Fisher (Jhey Castles), a scientist, believes that a disastrous storm will hit the Earth in no time but no one seems to care, despite her being a household name. Before she heads to her workplace, she discusses the places the family members would go in the event that the storm does hit. She knows it is going to happen but what she is completely unaware of is that the storm is just at their doorstep, waiting for Meredith to step outside before chaos breeds.
The family is together but her husband, Sullivan (Joseph Michael Harris) is the one out there to take care of her. He has military allies who are able to contact people in authority. The complication is that person, Sallieu Sesay, was cohabiting with Sullivan’s former partner, and their history is hardly perfect.
Without getting ahead of myself and giving details that would spoil the surprise for others, End of the World is the most entertaining movie that I have watched in quite a while. They made a real film out of the idea in pretty much every respect here was nothing wrong with it. But let’s take a pause right here. The goal of this paper is not to deliver an uninformed critique, but rather we look forward to pinpoint one major strength of the film’s overall conception.
It is well known that the film catastrophe genre cuts deep into the pockets. It requires the biggest cast and crew, a really huge budget to cover as well dailies costs, visual effects. However, with this film, only some were involved. Mostly there were no people trying to escape from the flood or falling buildings. Those you encounter are either on the verge of death or are irrelevant to the crucial events moving the plot forward.
The solar storm itself is being argued as another storm that’s going to pass through, having hail and thunder, as if it was nothing. But as you watch the film, by the time when the storm passes, there will be no civilization left behind. But there is nothing to worry about the Fishers still remain in order to look after the places that might survive. The whole film is very much like that. You view it in utter disbelief. But indeed, with the budget it had, all it was left with was the end product, which is too offensive such that no pain killer the body can dispense can relieve the distress.
By the same token however, “End of the World ” is not so bad when taken lightly, which some may choose to do. I know you might be aggrieved by the one hour and a half that is an hour and a half too late. To be fair, time well spent at the same can be valuable to the actors and crews that will know that there is someone out there who is keen on their products. Judging a bit less, there exist the more expensive products and those with highly paid jobs and minimum wage.
Among all these, “End of the World” is at the level of minimum wage jobs. In this case, we cannot hold the writer, director and the actors who have made something which is not so believable responsible for it. But in case you are able to do the same thing and do it much better and, well, with little or no money, we have in the world a great solution. Until then, ignore the negative reviews. It’s brief, so just get over it. Such contribution and participation is crucial, more so for such films which necessitate an audience than for those with bigger budgets.
