Nazi Overlord
Nazi Overlord is a B movie about a mad Nazi scientist, which is not particularly a problem because most of the other films mentioned above have also been like that. The budget limitations are very noticeable, for instance a scene when a lumber truck is shown moving through Rumania is much greater than its entire complexity, which is entirely disappointing.
This gets worsened with the later scene where a convoy truck was blowing up and this explosion is shown only through a digital effect. However, robbed Pallatina who comes originally from The Asylum editing department does not disappoint and tries to make every moment worth watching while slowly bringing in the invaders.
One would expect that the movie would be more genre-heavy, but it is during the second half that we see attempts in that direction. Alas! It is barely satisfactory. Swarm of Nazi’s breeding plague-carrying insects is not much of a threat and the second half of the movie deflates like a punctured balloon. One genetic screw-up was advertised to us two soldiers’ body with a piece of bone connecting them at the waist – but, this is a pathetic sight. When compared to the phantasmagoric creations we had in the similar Frankenstein’s Army (2013), it is for sure, a huge disappointment.
Dominique Swain portrays an uncanny character of a Nazi, which is indeed a shocker considering her much sweeter look in Lolita (1997) as a teenage entertainer. The fate of Swain’s career has most certainly changed she was also featured in Nazis at the Center of the Earth along with a number of The Asylum’s offerings.
Due to her lack of great acting skills, the character fails to live up to the over-expectation of a true B villain and comes across ordinary. Quite a number of such oversights are excused by the wonderful bad scene where she undresses and enters the insect part of the chamber with only a bra on and salivating insects make a soldier bust and coat her in gore.
Tom Sizemore is the last name left on the resume, once an aspiring artist in such movies as Strange Days (1995), Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Black Hawk Down (2001), but who did not manage to avoid the downfall due to the stories of drugs, alcohol and domestic violence. And also, in a number of The Asylum films, featuring Sizemore in prominent roles of just about five minutes as an army officer, the audience did get the impression that he was disintegrating under the pressure of his social lifestyle. At least Andrew Liberty proves to be a strong leading actor it is difficult to imagine him in this character and this may well prepare him for greater roles.
