Do Not Kill It
An Alaskan town experiences trigging an ancient evil force that goes from host to host bringing death and destruction everywhere it passes. The last chance of survival rests with a weathered demon hunter (Lundgren) who has successfully faced such terror before. He has a willing FBI agent (Kristina Klebe) who has no choice but to join him and learn how to control a demon that can possess its divine slayer.
Review: The trailers to Don’t Kill It sounded like something a little different than the usual Dolph Lundgren fare and they turned out to be correct. It is a mix of horror, action and comedy and is perhaps one of the best movies Dolph has done in the recent years. It features bloodbaths with extremely creative slashing including town hall meeting where massacre is straight out of church scene from Kingsman.
The best part? Squibs! It seems the blood squibs are back again as filmmakers are finally getting away from using that terrible CG crap. You can expect blood in abundance in this film. People getting axes in heads, stabbings, shootings, and all sorts of weird deaths that are surprising at first but after the first half an hour, become the reason you are laughing along with the film as opposed to the other way around.
And let’s not forget the first 10 minutes. They are, unexpectedly, quite disturbing because you don’t know what the hell is going on and pretty quickly, it does make sense and because the movie is less than an hour long, you will not get bored at any moment.
The movie knows that it is ridiculous as it is filled with black humor and it feels as if it is a long episode of Supernatural mixed with Denzel Washington’s Fallen.
Dolph could not have been cooler with a twinkle in the eye from the very beginning. It can be said that the whole idea of the story is insane. Though, importance for every other sub plot and side characters is low and it’s pretty basic plot so there aren’t any twists and turns but I thought it was a blast regardless.
Ultimately, it is safe to say that Don’t Kill It is an action/horror/comedy that deserves to become a cult classic for its excellent character development, a champion among Dolg’s works in several years, and genuine killing scenes. The film’s depiction and its atmosphere can definitely compete with the greats.
