World War 4

World War 4

New Zealand filmmaker A.K. Strom was a member of a military newsreel archive. During those years he got the best ingredients for making the most terrifying and realistic preparations for nuclear war ever shown on the screen. It is possible to summarize that throughout those years he managed to assemble a whole series of set actors, locations and builds and crazily result. ‘World War Four’ is the most realistic nuclear war movie made in seven years.

This is a film in which soldiers advance, bombs drop, and the soldiers invade the shores. A family gets sucked into the conflict that seems to continually escalate, can they last long enough for the war to end? Total war has been declared, and nuclear weapons are in the picture.

World War 4 is arguably one of the most outstanding depictions of war, as it skillfully combines actors portraying dramatic fictional events with snippets of actual war proceedings. It’s easy to spot archival footage and even easier to relate to the combination as it adds a level of realism of places that can not be matched when the film makers were dramatizing the set. It also doesn’t hurt the production design, which is simple and adequate.

It is terrifying and offensive at the same time, feeding the imagination with graphic depictions of slaughtered women and children. Something none of us want to witness, but unfortunately can happen today with the political climate in the world.

The actors Graham Vincent, Morgan Bradley, and Kevin Taylor play the main roles in the film; some supporting actors, however, stutter the plot with their underwhelming skills.

It is certainly worthwhile to look out for the release of World War 4 in 2019, as it will provide something you have never seen before due to the remarkable use of archival material.
