The Last Movie They Ever Made

The-Last-Movie-They-Ever-Made

The Last Ever Made Movie is more of a parody film that celebrates fan films and less about anything else. I think the story here takes inspiration from different sources, including Star Trek. The influence becomes very obvious when you think about the fact that Nathan Blackwell who wrote and directed this also created Voyage Trekkers.

In this movie, everyone has received a telepathic message that the world will end soon and there is nothing they can do to stop it but prepare for armageddon. While others may freak out or stand in the middle of the street holding up a sign that says “The Apocalypse Is Here”, what we’re shown is an American slice-of-life taking it in stride what do they want to do with their last thirty days?

The threat feels like a riff on how Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy started, only nobody’s going to get a chance to leave earth. I did wonder what was happening in other parts of the world though. Marshall (Adam Rini) believes best thing he could do with his life now is something meaningful finish making that movie he thought up as a teenager. His old friends Lance (Ryan Gaumont) and Arthur (Craig Curtis) join him along with his ex-wife Audrey (Megan Hughes Rini)

Also, thematically I’m pretty sure this shares some common ground with “Hey, Viktor!” which I reviewed awhile back because both characters feel like they have nothing left to lose by trying revive that spark again; even if it’s just for one moment, it results in something any viewer can smile at while watching these works unfold before their eyes but The movie being made here is even pulpiest than Metalstorm from The Fall Guy so you know. I’m all about these movies within movies type deals; besides Flash Gordon being honored throughout the whole thing this felt like what would’ve happened if Flash Gordon had been made by someone who watched too many Flash Gordon movies.

The last movie ever made gets it right, if we’re supposed to be the fly on the wall and watch. More than anything else, I want to know who will come together with whom, and as for how it all ends I expected the ending of this film not to be maudlin. There’s joy and satisfaction in that, because we get to see them complete what they started. So when it fades to black and we know it’s the end of the world as we know it, we know they’ll all be fine.
