Gone Girl
After the hits Seven, Fight Club, Panic Room, and Zodiac, just to name a few, David Fincher returns to the cinema in 2014 with a drama called Gone Girl. This is the cinematic remake of the novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, also the screenwriter of the film. The story is that of the spouse Nick and Amy Dunne, full of mysteries and twists. After his wife goes missing, Nick finds himself in the middle of a storm, being accused of murder. His almost detached behavior arouses more and more suspicion, but a completely unexpected event confuses the investigators.
To play the spouses an excellent Ben Affleck and a perfect Rosamund Pike in her role. To accompany them in the scenes also Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Carrie Coon, and Emily Ratajkowski. Academy Award nominations for Rosamund Pike, as well as four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
The Terminal
Directed by Steven Spielberg, this 2004 film has impressed the hearts of millions of viewers for its emotional strength and sweetness. The film is based on the true story of the Iranian refugee Mehran Karimi Nasseri, who remained in the terminal of the main Parisian airport for almost twenty years. Citizen of (fictional) ” Krakozhia ” Viktor Navorski discovers a horrific coup against his homeland, just as he was fulfilling his dream of reaching America. Due to bureaucratic problems, however, Airport does not allow him the visa to travel, and cannot return to his home.
The cast sees an evergreen Tom Hanks as Viktor Navorski, accompanied by the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stanley Tucci, Diego Luna, Barry Shabaka Henley, Zoe Saldana, and Guillermo Díaz. Jazz player Benny Golson also gives a cameo in this movie
Three Men and a Leg
Aldo, Giovanni, and Giacomo set off from Milan to Gallipoli for Giacomo’s marriage to the daughter of Cavalier Cecconi, former father-in-law of Aldo and Giovanni. They also have an important task to complete: to deliver to Eros Cecconi his latest purchase, a wooden sculpture in the shape of a leg made by the famous sculptor Garpez. Along the way, Chiara collided with them, who is also going towards the south, and then embarked for Greece. Immediately, Giacomo is struck by Chiara and begins to question her future. Adventure after adventure, the bond between the three friends and Chiara strengthens as they all reflect on their dreams, regrets, and aspirations.
The comic trio signs a road movie that over time has become a true classic of Italian comedy, which the public is still very fond of. Aldo, Giovanni, and Giacomo give their best in their debut film directed by Massimo Venier. With Three Men and a Leg, definitely one of the must-see films on Netflix, the trio sets the tone for their future works and achieves great success. A light and very enjoyable film, with just a lot of deep reflections and an extremely credible and heartfelt portrait of friendship.
Mank
The end of 2020 gave cinema (actually Netflix) the latest work of prolific director David Finch. Following the cancellation of Midhunter, Finch renews his collaboration with the streaming giant in the best way he could think of. Mank tells the true story of Herman J. Mankiewicz, one of the most influential screenwriters of the last century. A collaborator of Orson Welles on his masterpiece Fourth Estate, he has had to fight several legal and personal battles, as well as with the demons of his head. The film investigates Mank’s twisted relationships with the law and with his affections, the joy, and the pain of his life.
To embellish the film, one of the candidates announced for the coveted Oscar for best film, is certainly the cast, which sees in the role of the protagonist the newly awarded Academy Award Gary Oldman. Together with him Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Tom Pelphrey, Tuppence Middleton, and Charles Dance. Undoubtedly a highly recommended movie to watch on Netflix.
