Sinbad and the War of the Furies
Sinbad and the War of the Furies might be wanting in more than its fair share of things but at the very least it has a cool title. The filmmakers have done something unique in making the character of Sinbad the Middle Eastern sailor, a modern treasure hunter. This new age Sinbad, portrayed by WWE veteran John Hennigan, is very reminiscent of the character Dirk Pitt from the Clive Cussler novels or from the Jason McConaughy film if you prefer.
While looking for treasure hidden deep in the bowels of the Mexican caves Sinbad together with his assistant has stumbled upon a tomb that has been kept a secret for centuries. Delusioned with arrogance, self entitlement, and materialism, the explorer emerges the three descendants of Medusa who are breathtakingly beautiful yet immensely sinister, who seek to destroy the world’s populations.
John Hennigan makes a nice modern or classic Sinbad although calling him the Sinbad of folklore might not really be the highest praise. He is reasonably handsome, fit and athletic, casual in his mannerisms and has a deft self-deprecating sense of humor with a plot that would have made most others cringe.
There is no Sinbad character, there is the Sinbad brand. The film itself contains a story that is so outrageous that it leads the audience never to pay attention to the rhyme or the reason. This film would be appropriate as the first part of an adventure series in the style of The Beachmaster or Treasure Hunter.
