Manoj Bajpayee starred in a film titled ‘Silence Can You Hear It?’ with Prachi Desai last year. In it, he played the role of ACP Avinash Verma who is in charge of a special unit at the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch. This thriller caused quite a stir when it hit OTT platforms because audiences were seeing a different side to Bajpayee. Aban Bharucha Deohans has now decided to give us all another one of these movies after making us wait for almost three years. The new flick is called ‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’ and follows officers from the same special unit led by ACP Avinash Verma. It came out on April 16 and can be streamed on Zee5. So, if you are planning on watching this murder mystery, here’s what you need to know.
‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’: Story
The film traces the life of ACP Avinash Verma (played by Manoj Bajpayee) who shifts into his new residence in Mumbai and he gets assigned to a new confidential case as he takes these steps forward in his life. It so happened that there was a shootout at Night Owl Bar which killed not only one but everybody else present there but luckily leaving one alive who becomes the sole witness.
ACP Avinash asks him to tell how things unfolded at the bar, while narrating it appeared much more messier than what met eyes initially, during shooting one among people got shot happens to be female she got shot in unusual way raising eyebrows hence team starts probing into her murder realizing its linked with larger racket.
Silent 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout Performances
Manoj Bajpayee as ACP Avinash Verma is such an absolute delight to watch on screen dry wit, offbeat approach to solving cases. He does not have any conventional ways or means of reaching the bottomline when it comes down to finding out what’s wrong with humanity around him; this trait has been beautifully inculcated by Bajpayee throughout his performance here proving once again why he remains one our most dependable actors on any given day every frame that features him commands attention from audience thanks largely also because even during such somber moments actor still manages bring out some action sequences where he literally moves like knife through butter.
Talking about Prachi Desai as Inspector Sanjana Bhatia– she definitely has acting talent but tries too hard against Manoj Bajpayee and frankly speaking there was no need for her to do so had she stuck within confines of what required being done according character would have looked pretty good instead tries go beyond pulls backfires puts much effort work
I don’t care for any of the other performances except two. Parul Gulati is dramatic to no end in her debut Hindi film. I know she’s meant to be cold-blooded and menacing, but the fact that she’s done it like this makes it seem as if we’re watching a TV serial unfold before our eyes. Equally, Dinker Sharma is too over the top, sucking out all of the thrill from his interestingly written antagonistic character.
‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’: Script, Direction & Technical Aspects
When I watched ‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’, I realized that they only bothered with writing Manoj Bajpayee’s character. It seems as though they paid lip service to every other character in the film. Similarly, it feels as though they didn’t even write dialogues. In this whodunit, characters do not drive the story forward through their dialogues. They state the obvious. There are multiple loopholes in the writing which I was okay with initially but there’s only so much you can ignore after a point.
Coming to direction crisp editing would save this movie. This movie could’ve been wrapped up even within two hours but it felt like the director just wanted to make sure that by hook or by crook he reached two-and-a-half-hour mark in this film! After a point, it becomes too long and dragged for me because the loose ends are not tying up and unnecessary bits are stretched out for too long.
The only good part about ‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’ is camera work camera work is smooth and keeps your attention intact through this badly written whodunit. It takes you along with special unit as they try to solve case. Also shots capturing movement and adrenaline are smooth not shaky which makes for good viewing experience.
Outlook’s Verdict
While watching ‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’, I was left with a lot of questions. By the end of the movie you still don’t know why a character is behaving eccentrically and how another girl who had strange marks on her eyeballs died. These two plots were conveniently forgotten and by the end of it, I felt incomplete. Movie bites off more than it can chew and that leads to these loose ends. Writing loopholes make you feel as if you’re watching an episode from a Hindi crime serial. It was painful to watch Manoj Bajpayee perform so well in a film that doesn’t do justice to him or any other character.
