Kajal Aggarwal’s new film Satyabhama directed by Suman Chikkala has released in theaters now. The star heroine plays a powerful cop in this flick. Let us see how the movie is.
Story:
Satyabhama (Kajal Aggarwal) is an honest police officer who gives importance for nothing other than her duty. She even comes late to her marriage as that’s how much she loves her job. A lady named Haseena undergoes domestic violence and she seeks the help of Satyabhama. Satyabhama fails to save Haseena from her toxic husband Yedhu. Satyabhama decides to catch hold of Yedhu. How does she do that and what is Iqbal, Haseena’s brother’s connection with this forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
It is really good to watch Kajal Aggarwal in a never before seen role. She is terrific as a powerful cop who fights with goons and performs all high-octane stunts which we generally see in a star hero’s film. Kajal’s hard work for Satyabhama’s role can be clearly seen and she doesn’t disappoint at all.
The first half is watchable with some neat and gripping moments here and there. There are not one or two but multiple elevation shots followed by slow-motion shots for Kajal Aggarwal which will make her fans go gaga over those portions. Kajal’s styling and looks have been designed very well. Supporting cast performances are good and in fact, they are the ones through whom the story is told.
The message that this Kajal Aggarwal starrer tries to give out to youth is good but its execution isn’t great because it has intended well on those lines only this saves Satyabhama up to certain extent.
Minus Points:
Satyabhama is overstuffed with many things and the action thriller will make our heads spin at times. It deals with topics like virtual reality games, domestic violence, child trafficking, terrorism etc but the screenplay is not cohesive enough to bind all important things which the movie speaks about. For a normal viewer, these elements may go above their head. Naveen Chandra and Prakash Raj have not got prominent roles. Naveen Chandra’s equation with Kajal is not shown in detail.
Most parts of second half are disjointed and at one point it becomes difficult to understand about what this movie wants to say and where it is heading towards. The narrative lacks effective structure and flow. As the film progresses many new characters come into picture but due to below par execution it is hard for us to understand what exactly is happening around. No doubt Satyabhama is an ambitious attempt but it is not powerful though.
The film tries to be everything but falls short of giving any good experience to audience as too many multiple elements dilute main plot itself like they say too many cooks spoil the broth so did here also because of confusing execution there are few good moments in second half but they appear very rare More care should have been taken regarding second half
Technical Aspects:
Sri Charan Pakala’s background score is solid and if he would have been backed up well by writing team then surely impact could have gone one level up higher than expected Vishnu Besi’s cinematography work looks neat enough while production values are average Editing has happened fast paced but that became main reason for confusion also sometimes.
Suman Chikkala, a debut director, performed moderately. The screenplay is to blame because it is twisted. To have an easy understanding of the multiple subplots and features involved, they should have strived for simplicity.
Verdict:
In general, the movie Satyabhama is an action-packed thriller that shows Kajal Aggarwal in a new light but fails to captivate with its script. Kajal does a commendable job and touches upon various social issues with good intentions through the film. The first half has some decent moments while the action sequences are stylishly canned but unnecessary confusion is created in storytelling during the second part which would have been made easier for viewers if only there were proper screenplays written for them to follow easily at least making this one exciting thrillers which however bring down otherwise interesting thrillers by complicating narration thus leaving sathyabhama appealing mainly kajalfans rest below average watch
