Located in a remote village, Rangasamudra seems like it could be a children’s film at first. But as the story unfolds, seasoned actors led by Rangayana Raghu portray grandparents in one of many touching tales. The film is set in the magical ’90s and takes a nostalgic sweep through the picturesque village of Rangasamudra, located on the Karnataka Maharashtra border. It tells us about its heartfelt journey when a grandson sets out to fulfill his grandfather’s simple yet poignant wish to go for a ride in a car.
Breaking away from the conventional commercial film template, Rangasamudra does not have typical action or drama cliches. Rather, it intricately weaves in delightful melodies and bit of romance centered mainly around school teachers. Goobe aka Mahalinga (Raghavendra Rajkumar) is the only grandson of respected folk artist portrayed by Rangayana who takes center stage amidst usual escapades of school children. Through different characters at once director imparts important life lessons reflecting humanity and morality.
Every time he comes on screen, Raghu shines as a folk artist, he exemplifies dignity throughout his roles. Children bring innocence with them wherever they appear, this movie features performances from some big names such as Raghavendra Rajkumar which adds charm points too! Another interesting character would be Sampath Raj playing someone representing wealth & egoism yes indeed there are many layers within these stories! When rich man insults poor artists leading to challenge made by child then that becomes what story hangs upon.
The storyline also introduces on top love story between one of teachers. Though occasionally losing touch with main theme through screenplay alone music especially final number sung by Oscar winning composer MM Keeravani still manages to soothe our souls after all has been said n done here folks!
While direction and cinematography are passable enough during certain scenes, there are moments where screenplay falls flat; highs and lows seem extended at times. Despite some over-dramatization it might be heartwarming to see how much effort grandfathers put into relationships with grandchildren.
Rangasamudra may not be perfect but by capturing an era gone by this film does more than just provide a glimpse into history it also aims at showing us importance of education. A little bit family drama blended with revenge sprinkled over top action would have been nice; however despite these few flaws I still found myself thoroughly entertained throughout so go watch now if you haven’t already done thus far!
