Rakshana (2024)

Rakshana

Actress Payal Rajput’s cop action drama. Let us see how is it?

Story:

Kiran (Payal Rajput) is an IPS trainee, her close friend Priya commits suicide but Kiran feels it is a murder. But she doesn’t find any proof that it was a pre-planned murder. After few years Kiran becomes ACP and comes across Arun (Maanas), who stalks girls and tries to teach him a lesson. But Arun does character assassination and tries to defame her by bringing out some stories about her personal life. However, that least bothers her and she continues to study what kind of person he actually is. One day, Arun commits suicide which makes Kiran believe that there is someone else behind his death as well. Will she cross the line?

Plus Points:

Most of the serial killer films don’t work because they fail to convey why such crimes are committed in an effective way. Here also antagonist’s character has been neatly designed in Rakshana. We get to see enough villain’s traits which gives depth for the proceedings.

The second half is watchable with investigative scenes through which the protagonist reaches about the case. Payal Rajput did a good job as cop leaving from regular glamour roles. She suited well for body language required for this role and made many scenes watchable even when writing isn’t strong.

Vinod Bala supported Payal well on screen. Maanas performed well with his captivative performance. Roshan played another important role did complete justice to his role.

Minus Points:

Technically Rakshana is very bad film. Most of the scenes lost lips synchronization and post-production works were not taken care properly at many places. This affected viewing experience big time. It’s surprising how can a maker leave such a big flaw into final product which enough changes audiences perception.

First half is poorly presented and it gives the impression of watching an outdated film. The director really had some sensible thoughts but they didn’t translate well on to big screen. For example, Payal Rajput says that women should not play victim card and such actions will have severe consequences. This scene happens in a flash without making any impact.

Second half everything gets connected and once big revelation is done then the film becomes predictable and also it gets dragged for no reason.Pacing is slow at many places, editing team could have chopped off 10 minutes for sure. Dialogues were very poorly written and few are unintentionally funny.

Technical Aspects:

Mahati Swara Sagar did a good job by elevating impact of few thrilling moments with his pulsating score. Anil Bandari’s visuals are decent but CGI works are substandard in this film as mentioned earlier there are many scenes where lip sync was missing. Rakshana Editing is below par so as production values.

The story has been well attempted by Prandeep the director but not executed so. The first half is very boring and it gets worse with bad dialogues.

Final Words:

In general, Rakshana is a crime thriller which only catches our eye in some scenes. Payal Rajput has done a very good job with her role and the script could have turned into a nice investigative thriller as well. But where it lacks behind is on execution part which was underwhelming; there were dull moments too and few technical glitches did not let this film be an enjoyable watch for me at least.
