There have been many films in Bollywood which revolve around sports. Cricket, football, hockey, boxing, badminton and racing based films have always been loved by the audience.
Now a new Hindi film ‘Gabru Gang’ has been released which is based on kite flying. This is the first ever film made on kite flying in the world. The story of this film is set against the backdrop of Punjab. Abhishek Duhan who has given brilliant performances in films like ‘Mandali’, ‘Pataakha’, ‘Veere Ki Wedding’ and ‘Sultan’ etc. has done full justice to his role in this film. Amar Mohile’s background music gives a fresh energy to the scenes of this film.
As far as its story goes it is very interesting. An eight year old boy Rajbir Saluja with his two friends Arshad and Uday wins the prestigious kite competition Hi-Fly 1999 and becomes Number One in Punjab by 2011. Soon best team ‘Gabru Gang’ becomes everybody’s favourite.
But fate had something else stored for them as in 2011 Rajbir loses in finals to Harry of Delhi Shehzaade team because his focus shifts from game to a girl in final round. Rajbir after fight with Uday leaves game and disband Gabru Gang.
However, destiny makes Rajbir fly kites again which is turning point of the story. Hi-Fly 2019 has now become huge brand and competition has reached national level where 29 teams from 29 states will participate. Gabru Gang will have to fight long battle unitedly as they have to first defeat all local teams to represent Punjab in Hi-Fly 2019 Championship and then win final.
Now before Rajbir is the challenge to defeat Harry who had defeated him in 2011. What happens next in this sports drama you have to watch the film for. Climax of the film will leave audience shocked.
The most interesting thing about the film is its plot with drama as well as twists and turns, great music, Amar Mohile’s powerful background score, natural acting by actors and dialogues which keep audience stuck to their seats.
Aarti Puri has played character of Bulbul very naturally also maintaing the drama/her acting as per requirements of scenes of this film. Honestly speaking ‘Gabru Gang’ is a magical cinematic experience where alongwith sportsmanship many other emotions get awakened too.
Abhishek Duhan has performed his role very well in the film as Rajbir. He has shown emotions of a player perfectly. Rest other artistes have also shown game of kite flying rightly. Director Sameer Khan’s hard work can be clearly seen in ever frame.
Sameer Khan, who is a director, did justice to the story of this film. There is a balance between emotions and sports in it. According to the script there are no scenes from games for quite some time after the beginning of the film, but then again until its end they are beautifully mixed with emotional drama by the director.
For lovers of sports dramas “Gabru Gang” will be like a boon. This movie is an entertainment for all age groups.
Hindi cinema needs more such movies. Despite being very interesting, thrilling and motivational actually kite flying has never been considered as a sport.
