Era Oculta

Era-Oculta

“Hidden Era” Narratives of 78 minutes long in color, tries to be a movie that discovers the city of Maputo through its lively streets filled with reggae music and history making. The main aim is to tell the story about Phambi; a Rastafari artist who cannot stop at anything until he ensures his son gets education amidst schools’ expulsion threats and payment delays. This journey also acts as a window into other worlds when it brings together two feminist activists Paula and Ednora whose lives intersect with those around them bold enough for pose naked in front him as models while they seek their own freedom.

Reggae beats, Rastafarianism and concealed women protesting their rights in Matola and Maputo are some of the threads used by “Hidden Era” as symbols on its artistic loom. It is through these threads that this story begins to unravel revealing what it takes to survive within such societies where people have accepted norms even if they know deep down inside those rules work against them; more specifically highlighting how resilient an individual can become facing adversity head on.

The narrative hinges around collaborations between artists like Phambi and social workers who act as intermediaries between him/her or them all while placing arts alongside activism right at center stage once again. Thus, this film tells us that without art there would be no reflection or reflection but no change either hence the need for partnership between artivismists.

What happens during Ixon’s hidden era transforms him into a different person altogether because it exposes one another side of himself which was not known before he started working with Phambi. Similarly other characters find out some truths about themselves as well like women’s roles in shaping stories; while trying to understand certain things actors navigate through various issues creating conflicts along their path towards understanding what happened where why etcetera.

“Hidden Era” should be seen primarily as showing how people can overcome difficulties rather than dwelling too much on problems themselves; thus making it more positive an outlook on life through art activism than pessimistic view where everything seems impossible. Through my work I want viewers see different layers within society change through time especially those that remain hidden most times so that we may appreciate them better.
