Certainly one of the best series in Spain last year was Locomia, a three-episode Movistar Plus documentary directed by Jorge Laplace which shined as it narrated the rise, glittering success and fall of one of the most peculiar music groups created by Spanish record industry during the 80s and 90s. It told us about the overwhelming and fascinating rivalry between their frontman and producer. Now, a fiction feature titled Disco, Ibiza, Locomia by Kike MaÃllo (A Perfect Enemy, Toro) will dive into that same story of sequins, parties and huge egos.
The shoot started on May 18th on location in Barcelona and its surroundings as well as Tenerife for seven weeks. The film is currently in post-production and editing with the aim to achieve same public recognition than the aforementioned show did.
It was written by MaÃllo himself together with Marta Libertad (Oswald. El falsificador, his last work), produced by Kiko MartÃnez and starring Jaime Lorente (who we recently saw in Tin & Tina), Alberto Ammann (who appeared in Upon Entry recently released and awarded), Alejandro Speitzer Ivan Pellicer Pol Granch Javier Morgade Albert Baró Gonzalo RamÃrez Eva Llorach (Girl Unknown) y Blanca Suárez (El cuarto pasajero).
According to those who have made it possible this is a film about music, shine, family, ambition and betrayal which will explore club culture’s backstage golden age of record labels nightlife Madrid Scene fan phenomenon Latin explosion Miami.
The plot takes place in mid-eighties Spain, a group of friends led by Xavi Font (played by Jaime Lorente) have just arrived at Ibiza chasing their fashion worker dream there they are discovered by producer José LuÃs Gil (Alberto Ammann), a music industry tycoon in search of new talents to make up a band with. Without even being able to sing, boys embark on a career that will take them from living as hippies on Balearic island till filling Latin American stadiums and revolutionizing half the world’s nightclubs. They invented a new style, were hunted down by their fans all day long and became millionaires. even though they had to sacrifice freedom (hiding homosexuality).
Disco, Ibiza, Locomia is a Nadie es Perfecto production in co-production with La chica de la curva and SBD Films backed by Atresmedia, Netflix y TV3. It will hit Spanish theaters on April 19th 2024 thanks to DeAPlaneta while international sales will be managed by Film Factory.
