Three friends, Santosh (Vikas Kanaka), Priya (Shanthi Priya) and Livingston (Somayajula Venkata Satya Prasad) decide to spend their holidays at a farmhouse owned by a scientist named Dr Darshini. While exploring the house, they stumble upon an experiment that lets them see the future. But their excitement soon turns into fear as they find a dead body. Will they be able to solve the mystery and get out of this place?
In today’s time where audiences want fresh and intriguing stories, Pradeep Allu tries to get on board with ‘Darshini’. The concept of seeing what lies ahead is definitely interesting but the way it has been prolonged through screenplay and writing could have used some tighter editing.
The movie opens on a high note with Dr Darshini presenting her invention only to fall prey to an unknown sponsor’s greed. And then the plot shifts gears and introduces three friends Santosh, Priya and Livingston along with a romantic track between Priya and Santosh. The first half sets up the premise which leads to an edge of the seat interval block where friends are threatened by forces beyond their understanding. The second half is packed with twists and revelations some work while some don’t due to continuity gaps in screenplay. Despite having minimal cast and locations, it manages to keep you engaged till end by delivering thrills at right places but fails short of its potentiality; humour seems forced at times which hampers engagement level.
Performances delivered by cast mostly newcomers deserve mention here. Vikas and Shanthi Priya as lead pair do justice while Satya provides comic relief; supporting actors within limited scope portray their characters well.
The cinematography could have been better technically; music stands out especially songs like ‘Ninnele Ninnele’ sung by KS Chithra & Yazin Nizar or ‘Andamaa’ sung by Javed Ali & Sunitha Upadrasta among others.
‘Darshini’ is likely to appeal those who love thrillers mixed with science fiction elements. While the movie has its flaws but ignoring them can make it a good watch.
