Boomerang might look like a sci-fi series or movie that lovers of such genres will find familiar (like Teri Baaton Me Aisa Uljha Jia, Are You Human, I’m Not a Robot), but the smartly crafted script and funny dialogues transform what would have been an ordinary story. In the course of their arguments, scientist Samar Sen (Jeet) and his wife confront each other on issues ranging from inattentiveness to ill-treatment in their relationship. Despite this, Samar decides he wants to bring back the love between him and his wife but unfortunately, he is given a project with strict conditions of non-disclosure that makes him desist from doing so. Instead, Samar tries to prove his scientific worth to her besides making some money by going ahead to finish it before anyone else can start doing it. He trustfully tells Ayan (Saurav Das), his assistant about this confidential project that entails creating a humanoid robot.
The story was based on Sauvik Kundu’s adaptation of Punaray Ruby Ray, a play by Lokkrishti. This script has different genres which combine action, comedy, and romance all through to make the audience glued on the screen till its end, therefore it is watchable for full length. Manas Ganguly’s cinematography uses places that we are aware of and these work well for action scenes as well as comedy getting along at ease. Tech-wise it was good. The CGI work is impressive and looks mostly natural.
Jeet plays in this film an interesting character which allows him ample room for comedy, something rarely seen yet very refreshing, additionally, his comic timings matched those of Saurav Das who was equally hilarious both verbally or physically. The humorous aspect is also set skillfully in terms of pop culture references as well as witty puns, and rhyming lines alongside known aphorisms. Isha doubles up Rukmini portrays Isha as Samar’s wife, she acts the part of a wronged woman with great act, while Nisha is the robotic version of her which comes across as hilarious owing to its body movements and speech. Although, in some places, the slightly racist humor might be jarring, Kharaj Mukherjee manages to elicit a lot of laughter. Rajatava Dutta has some good moments as Isha’s wealthy father; on the other hand, Ayan has his own girlfriend played by Debchandrima Singha Roy.
However, it could be said that after the interval, the script slows down a bit before picking up again and giving a nice climax at last. All in all this movie is definitely one of those where Jeet had to put in an extra effort regarding his acting skills as well as comedy so he passes marvelously. This is a rib-cracking film that you will keep watching till the end.
