Review
Crimes against women combined with revenge drama can make for a thrilling watch. Portraying Meena’s (Rekha Rana) story in juxtaposition with her role as Ameena in a drama called Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai is what director Kumar Raj does best; he achieves this by interweaving these two compelling themes together. While she was raped by three boys who got away with it because they were minors 15 years ago and never brought to justice, she joins forces with some vigilantes who help her hunt down those responsible for their actions. Her character, on the other hand, is being married off to an old rich Arab man when she is just a little girl that’s ameena’s story which has a very bleak end.
The film tries to show how misogynistic men are towards women as well as demonstrate various forms of injustices meted out upon females by society sometimes even engineered by close relatives such parents or brothers etcetera but unfortunately it falls short due to poor narrative development. Nevertheless, the idea behind such kind of storytelling still remains valid though not executed properly enough since there wasn’t much thought put into its execution either way.
Between the two stories, it’s Ameena’s that feels more real because we see her parents struggle to bring up six daughters and one son on meagre incomes forcing them marry off for money. Rekha Rana also shines brighter in this particular role especially when clad all white like ghostly apparition. After going after these three guys she follows them westward into Africa then France where most action scenes during which time should have been better choreographed were quite poorly done; additionally court trials seem too convenient while resolution has not been carefully considered at all. The movie becomes less interesting with clichéd dialogue heavy use of poetry and songs erupting over again, except for one rap song which was quite catchy rest are just forgettable.
