It is the plot that is usually seen in horror films. People go to a countryside where something bad happens. In this case, these people are four online celebrities and one cameraman. The house near a forest is their isolated location. It is presumed to be the place where Azde, the deadly African mythological being exists and sucks blood for living. These influencers include Jack (Greenberg) who does fitness and reality TV, Sasha (Banna) who’s into fashion, Raven (Jordan) an ex-military man who plays video games and Mr Big Money (Hughes), a guy with an eye patch investigating strange creatures worldwide and who organized this trip with them.
The team gets information on what they’re dealing with from Prof. Elumah (Droese), an expert on African myths & legends then they set out looking for the monster (if there even is one), there’s a massive cash prize if found.
Almost all of it was filmed as found footage using fixed cameras and smartphones because the expedition that characters went on were supposed to be documented & posted online so most times they talk while looking at the camera which is common in this style of filmmaking.
The problem might be the screenplay itself. The film starts off interesting enough discussing possible existence of titular entity but then goes off track somewhere. As the group splits into two groups (Money/Raven together+Jack/Sasha/Bogo) (the cameraman played by Kevin Miller) creature becomes less important subject matter than character exploration involving trauma relationship abuse etcetera yes I know what you’re thinking but trust me it gets better towards third act when feature delivers on its title.
Music has its ups and downs too; adventurous, ominous emotional score which indeed enhances watching experience overall however sometimes sounds like unnecessary especially when sinister making scenes feel awkward.
