“Observe me. I will persist.” HBO, the largest cable network in the US, has released a trailer for its upcoming documentary film “Here to Climb,” which spotlights professional climber Sasha DiGiulian’s journey to becoming one of the most recognizable faces in her sport. Produced by Red Bull Media House and directed by Ricki Stern & Anne Sundberg (co-directors of Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, Burma Soldier, Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing), the film tells the story of what happens when you face everything standing between you and your dreams including yourself. After dominating competitive climbing as a child prodigy and establishing herself as a world champion sport climber, Sasha sets her sights on being recognized among history’s greatest mountaineers by taking her talents to the biggest walls on Earth through a series of audacious first female ascents. However, in order for this to happen she must both overcome physical barriers such as gravity & fear as well as mental blocks like self-doubt & burnout while navigating an industry where sexism often limits opportunities for women athletes at every level; all while trying not just succeed professionally but also personally which means finding happiness outside climbing too since life isn’t only about reaching new heights but also enjoying them along way up towards success regardless if there are others watching or not.
The film features appearances from Cedar Wright, Alex Honnold, Lynn Hill, Angela VanWiemeersch & Vian Charbonneau; cinematographer Pablo Durana; plus Sasha’s mother Andrea DiGiulian & Sasha’s husband Erik Osterholm. Battling both physical and mental obstacles in a sport without a path, Sasha’s passion becomes her profession as she scales walls no one thought could be conquered. With shots that put the viewer on some of the world’s most dangerous walls, “Here to Climb” shows what it takes to reach the top of climbing and stay there. As Sasha takes on summit after summit, inspired and mentored by female climbing icon Lynn Hill, she faces a variety of hurdles; including attacks on her public image and motivations in climbing (sometimes at the expense of safety), cyberbullying over her body weight, and a possible career-ending injury that led to 5 surgeries in 1 year.
“Here to Climb” was co-directed by Ricki Stern & Anne Sundberg (Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, Burma Soldier).
