Written by Jerry Robbins and directed by Chris Hollo, The Legend of Lake Hollow tells the story of a group of friends who go to a cabin by a lake to relax, only for strange things to start happening. They are being followed by something sinister and strangers appear and vanish without a trace. Staring James David West, Kyle Rankin, Brendan Bald, Liz Atwater, Meg Barlowe, Austin Copps and Will Waldron.

Sometimes you get films that are two halves, one successful and one that falls short unfortunately this is pretty much the case with The Legend of Lake Hollow. Starting off positive it does create the right feeling, there’s an air of suspicion and tension throughout which is helped along by acting that is stronger than you might expect from similar examples. There are some flaws but overall the cast do what they can to create a sense of fear that grows over time leading into panic.

However while it sets itself up quickly these cracks begin to show pretty soon after. Writing is its main downfall, as whilst the basic idea behind the story works well enough following very classic horror formulae, the details seem misguided at best. Firstly in introducing a Native American theme with no good reason why other than it being somewhat cheap choice even though thankfully this only plays small part within whole narrative so doesn’t go too far into distasteful territory.

Another big problem faced here comes in atmosphere & visuals struggling largely throughout build anything creepy/disturbing or chillingly scary or whatever else they were going for i’m not quite sure? The aesthetic never really gets hold dark side things more often than not coming across like a comedy-drama/weekend away type film most times which doesn’t help matters would be safe say considering subject matter such as this needs stronger visual depiction especially when dealing with legend creature feature.

Lastly its catalyst, the creature at centre their fateful trip lacks any sort background or level detail that would give it justice behind making it scary or threatening.
