2012: Doomsday

2012: Doomsday

2012 Doomsday the title should explain everything. IMDB describes this video as: A Modern Christian Epic in the Tradition of The Omega Code and Left Behind presented by Faith Films. That is more than enough to make you realize this is one video that headed straight into the Bargain Basement Bin.

As much as I appreciate a well-made movie dealing with Biblical prophecies, it is fair to say that there are movies that just should not be made. And this movie is one of them. I respect Faith Films for attempting to catch up with the 2012 craze, but there should be a firm line that is never crossed when trying to merge Mayan Prophecy with Biblical Prophecy.

It is not like I am an authority studying Mayan Mythology, but if the film’s focus is on a certain prophecy it only makes sense to devote attention to one doctrine and its branches. But the enigma that the film started with Mayan Doomsday and later wanted to add the Christian perspective simply because it would be easy or “timminga” to do seems flawed.

Normally, I’m not the kind of moviegoer who judges a flick by its cover, but after suffering through this one for almost 80 minutes, I’m at a total loss on how to compose a fair assessment of a film that was, bar none, the single worst film I’ve had the misfortune of viewing. And trust me, I’ve been through some real stinkers If only I had the chance to use MIB’s Neuralizer so that I could erase any evidence of the film.

In this movie, there were experienced actors such as Cliff De Young and Dale Midkiff, but even their track records could not prevent this movie from becoming what I call the ‘Lamosity of dosers’, a real waste of time.

In this film, the conflict is initiated instantly within the set time frame of just thirty six hours from Doomsday-841. This is the time when Dale midkiff, one of the main actors, reveals the most amazing golden crucifix. What a highlight! Only the writers of the script had already lost interest in conveying a mood this time around!

From here on, the film goes into schlock territory and does not come out of it.

Lloyd (Cliff DeYoung) is a bureaucrat who believes the world is almost coming to an end and is desperately trying to get his daughter Sarah (Danae Nason) out of Mexico while trying his best to convince his ‘experts’ that there is still hope for mankind. If you squint your eyes and take a closer look, his so-called ‘experts’ look awfully similar to an army of telemarketers. It becomes evident that no matter how Lloyd strategizes, he is going to end up losing this battle.

The next character is Mexican Alex played by Joshua Lee. His scene begins quietly enough. He is gently stalking Sarah through the lens of the camera, next thing, he is on the scale of a piece of meat and suddenly he’s transformed into that after the actual battle, how TF did that happen, I don’t know. Perhaps I dozed out of monotony.

Let’s not glance over the perennial moment of his own when he hurts the temple’s SUV head joining Sarah and a pregnant in the middle behind back seat, and as it starts hailing he (who, needless to say, had his drivers license with a serial number on it) starts swerving the SUV to “Avoid” the hail (thank god in the real world people do not go around like this!) getting.

And mind you, our so-called Idiot gets a chance to redeem himself as he gets chances close to being probably the worlds biggest hailstone dangling from him, though what hmm, he begins to live just to rambles to Sarah in half life. Knowing how his muscular bones have acted, It must have been something on the line of how hot she looked, or saving the cheerleader (oops, that was the wrong show!) Anyway, who in their sense can be a bother to anyone in wanting to hear those soft-spoken words.

Even with a hole through the size of a baseball in his chest, he finds no difficulty in speaking to Sarah for five minutes. Very Well, So as a person that has a hole through their chest the size of a baseball, they are able to have enough time to wind down the car and respond to the passenger long enough to say all those things which they never wanted to hear in their entire lives.

I mean, Some time in the future, this idea must probably be tested out. If you consider that to be dull, the film only gets worse from there. Let me tell you, people, save your money and don’t waste 99 cents on renting the movie, rent something else and save yourself the Doom that will befall you once you watch this nonsense.

Storyline: The last day is the 21 of December, 2012, the four faithful strangers come together at an ancient temple located in the heart of Mexico in this apophatic crap at this time with cliff de young and dale Midkiff starring. The Mayans predicted the end of the time or rather divided the times into two, one before the appointed date which is 21/12/2012 and the one after the date.

All these years after this appointed date, there has been a prediction by NASA scientist that the earth is getting ready for a catastrophic polar shift. The question that arises is, can the ancient Mexican temple be the answer that restores the hope in humanity to save itself from the clutches of extinction?
