The Sum of All Fears is a movie about neo nazis who get there hands on a nuclear weapon and plot out a way to place it in the Super Bowl located in Baltimore. They plan to blame the attack on Russia so that the United Stats and Russia will start World War 3.

There’s no secret anymore that a nuclear weapon DOES actually go off in this movie! Jack Ryan doesn’t defuse the bomb with a split second left on the timer. A nuclear weapon destroys Baltimore and most areas near it. This is pretty shocking! The way people are thinking right now, and the kind of stories we’re seeing on CNN, this just isn’t politically correct! I’d compare it to shouting BOMB in an airport.

You just don’t do junk like this. The studio delayed releasing Big Trouble for about six months, this one shouldn’t have been released AT ALL or the ending should’ve been changed so we could have another movie with the same clichéd ending! It may not sound as fun, but it would have been the right thing to do! (I realize the movie is doing pretty well in theatres, but that doesn’t change the fact that this movie could send people to therapy. Maybe!)

Now I’m no expert on the CIA, (and am not claiming to be one now) but I don’t think a lowly analyst would either go on a mission with an assassin OR wind up doing ten percent of the stuff he ended up doing. But its Hollywood! That’s one of the reasons I feel so strongly about how nuclear warfare was depicted in this movie. How they can obscure so many facts, and leave out so many details yet still try and scare people shitless! If they had chosen to make a completely accurate (or as accurate as a Hollywood movie can get) movie, I wouldn’t have objected to a nuclear explosion. But I don’t think its fair to pick and choose between fact and fiction, because the line has been broadened since 911 and everything is obscured.

If you’ve read any of my other reviews on Ben Affleck movies, you know how I feel about him (if you haven’t I basically think he’s a drama queen who needs some acting lessons) so I’m not going to get into that. Now I don’t think I’ve said anything about Morgan Freeman. He is an excellent actor who I’d enjoy seeing in more movies. If he told me the sky was falling I’d probably look up, that’s how believable he is!
