When I write a review, I always try to balance what’s important to me, against what the movie offers. I ask myself, “What’s more important, the cast or the script? Is it more important for a movie to make me laugh or to impress me with its realism?” After seeing a movie likeStealing Harvard I have to face the fact that if I write a positive review, I could possibly be the only critic to actually like that movie. I don’t care!
I can’t emphasize enough how stupid Stealing Harvard was! The plot wasn’t realistic, the characters were stupid and some of the dialogue got so off topic I thought someone had messed up the film reels! But putting that aside, Stealing Harvard made me laugh. I’m not the easiest person to get to crack a smile, and stupid things usually keep me from laughing. I also don’t usually like physical humor but a movie that can make me laugh is always welcome and to me that’s what matters most!
Comedies that aren’t afraid to be stupid, politically incorrect, and attract some of the meanest reviews a critic has ever written, are becoming harder and harder to find. In fact, if Tom Green wasn’t in Hollywood, they probably wouldn’t exist. Most of the time Tom Green is a comedic turn off and to tell you the truth, this movie was probably the only time Tom Green’s made me laugh And most of the time I wasn’t laughing with him, I was either laughing AT how dumb he is (which seems to be his intention) or laughing at Jason Lee.
I happen to think that Jason Lee is a very good actor. Whether he’s starring in a comedy, or drama, he knows just how much sarcasm and quirkiness to add to a character. I would imagine that there are quite a few movies being made in Hollywood with him in mind as a supporting character, because as supporting actors go he’s the cream of the crop!
In conclusion,
if you’re looking for a screwball comedy, like Tom Green or Jason Lee, have no interest in any other movie in the theater (you should), are just going because your son daughter cousin friend grandchild etc. begged you to take them, just feel like laughing or were so impressed by my review that you just have to see Stealing Harvard then check it out! But if you don’t fit into one of those category’s, there are plenty other fish in the sea, go see another movie!
