Now if I hear one more critic say, “It left out so much information”, or, “It only covered a small part of his life”, I’m gonna scream! It might have left some information out, but I know 12 times more about Ali then I did before I saw this movie! And I’m sure its not only me (For those of you who want a summary, Ali covers Muhammad Ali’s life from his his first fight for the heavy-weight championship, to his famous “rumble in the jungle” against George Forman.)
Then to any critic who says, “Will Smith wasn’t the right actor for this role, he didn’t do a good job!”, I say “Let me see you do better!”. Will Smith was great, he had the voice down, he looked enough like Ali, and I think that he’s proved that he’s more than just a funny guy! The only person who was better than Will, was John Voight who played Howard Cosell. Both, in my opinion should win an Oscar.
Now don’t run to the theatres and expect to see such a huge fight movie! Ali dealt with politics (Ali’s relationship to Malcolm X) then you might expect, and maybe even more then it dealt with his boxing career. I should also tell you that its quite a long movie Almost 2 hours, so I suggest you don’t buy a Super Large Soda, cause I promise you’re gonna miss something!
So in conclusion, this is a great movie Some people will enjoy the fight scenes, others will enjoy the great acting and the wonderful script But if you come in with an open mind, you’re not going to leave the theatre unhappy!
