Kate & Leopold is about a career women whose ex-boyfriend (who lives directly upstairs) discovers a portal to the 19th century. When the ex-boyfriend ends up in the psychiatric ward of the hospital (don’t ask), Kate and her brother meet the 19th century Duke, Leopold. Kate lands him in a margarine commercial, and they grow “fond” of each other.
This could have been a great movie But instead they made it totally stupid. This was a simple love story (good) with a dumb plot (Grabbing a Duke from the 19th century, and bringing him back!). If you cut out all the time travel nonsense and replaced it with something even a little plausible. This really could have been something good.
But they didn’t cut out the nonsense, it got more nonsensical as the movie went on. There were some high points, Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman were great And there were some clever comedic bits. But this is the kind of movie that some people will love, and others will hate. And I definitely didn’t love it!
