Like Mike is the story of an orphan, who finds shoes that once belonged to MJ Michael Jordan. The shoes, electrify his game, and he finds himself able to play basketball better than he ever dreamed possible. In fact, he is recruited by the local NBA team at first just as a gimmick but later to play. Calvin Cambridge has gone from an unwanted orphan to the most talked about boy in America, he must adjust and realize that everyone isn’t what they seem to be!
Newsflash Lil’ Bow Wow can act! Rapper turned actor, are we seeing the next Will Smith? This movie surprised me a lot. I was surprised how much I liked it, but most of all I was surprised that Bow Wow (who’s birth name is: Shad Gregory Moss) could actually act!
This is really the best family film I’ve seen in a while. It humor not only targeted children, but also adults. The plot was made for a kids movie, but it dealt with real issues that an adult movie would. Its the first movie this summer that can entertain children and adults for almost two hours! Its warmhearted, clean, and the perfect movie to take your kids to when they’re bored this summer.
The plot isn’t original at all In Rookie of the Year the main character was a terrible baseball player, until he broke his arm and he realized he could throw a fastball 100mph! In this, magic shoes are the source of his game. But the story kept me interested enough to look beyond the unoriginal plot. The movie had everything a successful movie like this needs, a kid who has to overcome outstanding circumstances (an orphan who winds up playing in the NBA), villains (another orphan who basically hates the world and is jealous of anything anyone else has, and the man in charge of the orphanage), another player who takes time to warm up to Calvin but ends up close to him (Calvin’s favorite player Tracy Reynolds who isn’t happy with the fact that he’s going to have to take Calvin under his wings), and a whole bunch of NBA players who all have small roles (Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, Chris Webber, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton and a bunch of other players)!
