Jessica Mauboy, who played in “The Sapphires” – Australia’s breakout movie of 2013 – takes her first film lead in more than a decade in family feature “Windcatcher.”

The Stan Original film bows on the Australian streamer on March 28 and is directed by Tanith Glynn-Maloney from a screenplay by Boyd Quakawoot.

Set in a small country town, “Windcatcher” follows the unlikely friendship between Percy Boy, newcomer Keithy Cobb and the feisty Daisy Hawkins as they join forces to wrestle the local school sports day title from a gang of grade five bullies. But as Percy Boy trains with his mates he realizes that he has the supernatural ability to see lost souls a gift passed down from his grandfather. Percy Boy must face his fears, prove his resilience and become a force to be reckoned with.

Mauboy is an Australian showbiz icon but has mainly been seen in music and TV roles — “Australian Idol,” “The Voice” and “The Project” over the past decade. In ”Windcatcher,” she plays Aunty Cressida, while Lisa Maza (“Wentworth”) features as Aunty Prue and newcomer Lennox Monaghan stars as Percy Boy.
