The Fast and The Fierce
If you have ever asked what a cross breed between The Fast and the Furious and Death Race franchises would look like, you can still keep asking. All thanks to The Asylum production company which brings us gems like Sharknado, Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark and others, cinema lovers now have a new banger on their hands: Jared Cohn’s brilliantly named Fast and Fierce: Death Race. However, a more appropriate title for the movie would have been Slow death: Boring Crawl.
Michael DeVorzon’s character Jack, an ex-street racer, is trying to escape his life in America in a junkyard somewhere in Mexico, when his brother Nelson appears with some problems. Jack is forced to race in this international competition called the Outlaw Race (Nelson simply says “This year it’s Mexico to LA”) in order to save his brother’s life from a huge gang leader Davie, who is apparently played by DMX the rapper/actor/convict. “You got some balls asking me that,” said jack with disdain to Nelson. “I’m retired, man!” But instead of refusal the brothers take off to the race.
In one of the many cases of rehashing existing material in the sequels Davie tells Jack “Your brother owes me a lot of money. But if he wins this race, his debt will be paid.” Jack sets off for a 1000 mile race in the first leg of what promises to be an intense showdown against warm hearted Nina (Becca Buckalew) and arrogant Mick (Nate Walker) while Davie and Nelson track the race from their old 1990s GPS.
From complications, there is no escaping. At a rest stop, the desperate Bianca (Paulina Nguyen) jumps into Jack’s car this is where the cinematic Ex Machina works who, it turns out, is an ex of Davie’s and has USB drives that could get him locked up. Now, Jack has to get Bianca to Los Angeles, avoiding a number of difficulties like Davie being arrested by the Mexican authorities and the daughter of his wife being abducted. And most interestingly, it all ends in a sort of Mexican stand off.
