Up

Director: Pete Docter and Bob Peterson Genre: animation. Duration: 96 minutes.

Pixar once again manages to bring tears to even the youngest ones. It does so with an exciting story about family, home, love, and rebirth. All narrated through an extravagant adventure starring an elderly person, with the desire to make an almost impossible dream come true, and a small and sparkling boy scout.

Inglourious Basterds

Director: Quentin Tarantino, genre: action/war. Duration: 153 minutes.

Quentin Tarantino reaches full maturity with this film, yet another cult in an extraordinary career. Every experimental character seen in previous works is handled here with absolute technical maturity. This makes Bastards without Glory not only one of the best war films but also a little pearl of modern cinema.

District 9

Director: Neill Blomkamp. Genre: science fiction. Duration: 112 minutes.

Neill Blomkamp renews and gives new life to the science fiction genre with one of the best sci-fi novels of the 21st century. The mockumentary technique (a fake documentary) makes the narrative dynamics more realistic and lets us immerse ourselves more in a story and context that we forget to be invented.

Moon

Director: Duncan Jones Genre: science fiction and drama. Duration: 97 minutes.

Duncan Jones manages to overturn the rules of films set in space by creating a complex parable. The dizzying story has all the tones of the modern thriller and touches on multiple themes with clarity and maturity through narrative and stylistics. The protagonist, Sam Rockwell, offers one of the most intense performances of his career.

500 Days Together

Director: Marc Webb Genre: the romantic comedy. Duration: 95 minutes.

A love story … or maybe not? This is what we ask ourselves in front of Marc Webb’s film, which speaks to us of the mystical mechanism that moves feelings. A screenplay that treats all the themes with delicacy and a direction that does not disdain to dare a little, makes 500 days together engaging and different from other romantic comedies.
