Oscars 2024: 56 Films Did Not Meet The Criteria For Inclusivity.

The voting that will decide the composition of the nomination lists for the 96th Oscars begins on Thursday. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 321 films will compete for awards this year. However, fewer films will compete for the Oscar in the best picture category.

265 films in the fight for the most important Oscar

The Academy has published a list of films that can fight for an Oscar in the most important category. It contains 265 titles. This means that 56 feature films can win in other categories, but cannot even count on a nomination in the most important one.

It’s all because of changes to the regulations adopted a few years ago, which were forced by the controversy summarized with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. The rules were changed in 2020, were gradually introduced in 2022, and have been fully operational since this year.

Under the new rules, in order for a film to compete for the Best Picture Oscar, it must meet two of the four standards of representation and inclusivity. We present these standards later in the news.

Interestingly, those frustrated by woke culture may be surprised by which films failed to meet the Academy’s new standards. They include two Marvel films “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, the concert “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”, as well as “The Creator”.
