Warrior

David O’Connor (2011)

Mixed Martial Arts meets family drama in Warrior. The protagonist, Tom Hardy, who tries to recover relations with his alcoholic father (Nick Nolte), and his brother (Joel Edgerton) are forced – each motivated by their own economic reasons – to participate and clash in a Mixed Martial Arts tournament. Whoever wins will get a hefty reward. The great scenes of the merciless fight and the convincing performances of the actors make Warrior a valid film about the fight in which the dynamic between the brothers and the father also stands out.

Drive

Nicolas Winding Refn (2011)

Among the films to see on Amazon Prime Video, there is certainly one of the best films by Nicolas Winding Refn: Drive. Ryan Gosling plays the pilot, an experienced stuntman and occasional mechanic who acts as a driver during robberies to round up. In the building where he lives he meets Irene ( Carey Mulligan ), who lives with her son Benicio and whose husband, Standard, is in prison. A relationship of affection and attraction is established between the two, interrupted by the release of Standard, which will end up endangering the already precarious balance and the lives of all.

With stunning photography, solid direction, and an adrenaline-pumping pace, Drive is one of those films that literally glues the viewer to the screen. We find the search for symmetry and the geometry of the shots typical of Refn’s cinema, while the soundtrack plays a fundamental role in the narration. Gosling, with a great economy of words, gives life to a unique, multifaceted, mysterious, and fascinating character.

Orson Welles (1946)

One of the unmissable films of Amazon Prime is definitely Lo Straniero, from 1946. The director of this film is Orson Welles, one of the most important directors in the history of cinema. Author of works such as Fourth Estate, The Lady of Shanghai, or Infernal Quinlan, this time he brings to the screen a dramatic film, which combines thriller and noir. The plot is very simple: a United Nations Commission Against War Crimes investigator travels to Connecticut to search for one of the most brutal Nazi death camp leaders, Franz Kindler.

In the cast, we find Robert G. Robinson as the investigator and Orson Welles himself plays the infamous Nazi. Thanks to Amazon Prime, we have the opportunity to watch a film by one of the leading authors of cinema, in which every shot is studied, and every interpretation or music is perfect. The advice is therefore not to miss a cult like this.
