The Malaysian psychological thriller “Korsakoff” has been awarded the Best Psychological Film for August, at the ongoing Cannes World Film Festival. The story is about a woman suffering from Korsakoff syndrome who gets abducted by someone. This condition causes memory confusion in individuals leading to difficulty in remembering recent events or acquiring new information. No other details have been made public as there is no trailer or synopsis yet available and neither has an official release date been given.
This is the second movie from D’Alpha Legacy to win one of the monthly Cannes World Film Festival awards; after their film “Eva” was named winner of Best Thriller/Suspense category for July. Both films will also be entered into the annual Cannes World Film Festival competition where they stand a chance to win Festival De Cannes’ Best of the Future Golden Fairy award and have their movie screened at Cannes although it should be noted that this festival is not affiliated with Festival De Cannes.
Commenting on this latest achievement, film producer Diyana Ismail told New Straits Times: “I’m very grateful for this win after producing five films… it’s amazing how well received KORSAKOFF has already been, even before its premiere here in Malaysia. I’m just so proud that we can bring our movies overseas.” “I think what really made it work were the performances by all involved,” she continued speaking about her cast which includes Elly Arifin, Erra Fazira, Ning Baizura, Azhan Rani and Iqram Dinzly among others.
“There may not have been many actors but together they had such strong chemistry which translated onto screen resulting in quality product overall,” said Diyana. In other news: several Asian countries have submitted entries for consideration under Best International Feature Film category at 95th Academy Awards next year; including Vietnam’s action flick 578 Magnum and Hong Kong’s Where Wind Blows starring Tony Leung.
