A movie begins with the sad truth of Nandikoluru, a drought-stricken village in North Karnataka, which has been suffering from ten years of rainless days. The villagers are at odds with the local MLA over inadequate water supply and decide to pray for rain by holding a fair.
Inmates Shivarajkumar (Virupaksha) and Prabhudeva (Basavaraju), on parole granted by Superintendent Ramesh after agreeing to help him shift his parents to the city, take up an interesting adventure when they learn about the event’s possible fortune. They go to Nandikoluru. Here they change direction of the story as they try to endear themselves with the residents through water provision and meet their matches Kusuma (Priya Anand) and Kempi(Nishvika Naidu). But their scheme takes a turn when they must bring back life into the village using different tricks during the fair thus also giving them an opportunity for self-redemption.
The synergy between powerhouse talents Shivarajkumar and Prabhudeva in their first ever screen-sharing, sets “Karataka Dhamanaka” ablaze. Theirs are incredible performances which add commercial value to this film through action packed scenes and dance episodes. Even though some parts may be slow or predictable at times due to pacing issues common with Yogaraj Bhat’s films there is no shortage hereof witty dialogues infused with philosophy along deep emotional attachments that characterize his works always delivering relevant messages wrapped around entertainment packages such as this one where it talks about saving water while being entertaining too.
Shivarajkumar and Prabhudeva play their roles so well that you can hardly tell them apart from real-life characters who have faced adversity head on finding hope amidst despair; further accentuated by use off authentic North Kannada dialect which adds flavour into storytelling process besides having an excellent supporting cast comprising of Rangayana Raghu, Ravishankar and Rockline Venkatesh among others. Nishvika Naidu does justice to her modest character while Priya Anand doesn’t disappoint either; though average score but still somehow manages to make it more attractive than what would be expected otherwise. All in all “Karataka Dhamanaka” is a great movie with only minor flaws which makes worth every second spent watching it.
