‘Kanni’ by Malhar Picture Company, Naughty Penguins Entertainment, Beyond Imagination Films and Chrome Films Ltd is about an Indian girl’s quest to live forever after in London.
Kalyani (Hruta Durgule), an Indian girl resides in London with three Indian friends Soham (Shubhankar Tawde), Nisha (Vallari Viraj) and Bhushan (Rishi Manohar). She works in a café. Her mother and younger sister live in India. Kalyani’s paternal uncle wants to get her married off because her father isn’t alive anymore and he wishes to be relieved of any responsibility towards her. However, she does not want settle down in India nor is she ready to marry anyone as such. She tries to hook a guy in London and get married since her visa is getting expired soon. Then she meets Nihal Hooda (Ajinkya Raut). But all her efforts to tie the knot fail as Nihal wants to settle down in India.
Now Kalyani tries to marry friend Soham because his app has been approved for launching by a London-based company. But Soham feels that it would not be right on his part if they get married as Kalyani doesn’t love him back . Do Kalyani and Soham marry?
Sameer Joshi has written this weird story where an app decides love or no love actually. In other words you can say that the user will know whether they love someone or not through their own app which was created by Soham only. Now my question here is suppose someones heart doesn’t give signals for love according to this app then what? And where do we think this watch/app picks up information from when it tells you whom your heart loves based on wearer’s pulse rate ? Of course I am sure most people would say “From the heart” but then what is the locus standi of an app? Sameer Joshi’s screenplay is not good either. There are no emotions in his drama, romance or comedy. Sameer Joshi’s dialogues are average.
Hruta Durgule has done justice to her character as Kalyani. Ajinkya Raut does a decent job playing Nihal Hooda. Shubhankar Tawde acted well for the role Soham. Vallari Viraj was just okay in portraying Nisha whereas Rishi Manohar did not have much of a scope with his character Bhushan. Shubhangi Latkar supported Nihal’s mother reasonably. People other than them were also fine enough.
Sameer Joshi has directed this film very poorly indeed. Music (Agnel Roman and Vishal Shelke) is quite nice. The rap song and Mann baware are well-tuned. Lyrics (by Chaitanya Kulkarni and Amar Dhembare) are fair. Agnel Roman should’ve worked more on his background music. Amol Salunke’s cinematography is alright while Mangesh Pednekar and Ashutosh Mhatre have done a good job with their art direction. Aniket Kale needs to tighten up when it comes to editing films like these ones which tend to be bit loose at times too long!
