Movie Review

If Scarlet Sails shows your child the story of a fantastically fulfilled dream, the film directed by Grigory Kozintsev brings school children back to reality and pushes the ideal against the everyday. The Spanish writer conceived of the novel as a parody of chivalrous novels, which he succeeded in doing very well. In the world Don Quixote is perceived as an archetype of human nature and interpreted as a psychological category, giving rise even to the philosophical concept – “Donquixotism”. This image has subsequently been repeatedly used in fiction by other authors, who have given him their own interpretation, parodied or referred to him. The novel is translated into all European languages and is still one of the most popular books, and in 2002 was named the best novel in world literature. This film about the famous story of chivalry, shown in a kind of parody, was first shown in 1957 and nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
