BATMAN
Batman (Bruce Wayne), under the cover of darkness fighting against crime in the costume of the Batman. A leading superhero from DC Comics publishing and the DC Extended Universe, appearing in comic books, movies, animated films, television series, and computer games.
Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, he debuted in the pages of issue 27 of Detective Comics magazine in 1939. As a child, Bruce Wayne witnessed the death of his parents some street criminals kill them. The boy swore that he would fight crime and devoted himself to it. thorough preparation, he started perfecting his mind and body under the guidance of sages and masters of martial arts. The sight of a bat flying through a window gave him an idea of how to strike fear into the hearts of criminals. Using his family fortune, he equipped himself with an arsenal of bat-themed gadgets, from his iconic costume to a parade of Batmobiles, and make a Batcave in the basement of Wayne’s Mansion.
Batman gained many helpers like faithful butler Alfred and several partners, including Robin, Batgirl, or Batwoman. Batman has joined forces with other DC superheroes on numerous occasions, including Superman and Wonder Woman, and has also joined the Justice League. Of course, Batman wouldn’t exist without Gotham City with its gothic architecture and the unique criminal world. Over the years, the hero has faced both dangerous madmen and disguised characters (Joker, Two-Face, Penguin, Riddler, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Catwoman), ordinary members of gangs and mafia or international super-criminals (Ra’s al Ghul), and even supernatural, cosmic villains (Darkseid). Numerous of Batman’s adversaries have, over time, become regular patients of the local psychiatric hospital known as Arkham Asylum.
Batman appeared on the big screen many times, first in cinema series “Batman” (1943) and “Batman and Robin” (1949), and then subsequent big-budget productions: “Batman” (1989) and “Batman Returns” (1992), “Batman Forever” (1995) and “Batman and Robin” (1997), Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012) and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016). Batman has been played by Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck, among others.
