What will this decision do to the protagonist’s life forver? Rewrite it.
Athomugam Movie Review: Athomugam is like a lesson on how to stay awake at night when you have a partner. Install a spy app in your spouse’s phone, through which you can see everything that they are doing. Martin (SP Siddarth) installs a spy app called Hidden Face on his wife Leena’s (Chaitanya Pratap) phone in the movie, though he does not do it out of suspicion towards her.
He wanted to surprise Leena on their wedding anniversary. When his colleague tells him that his girlfriend still tells people about how good of an idea it was to install a spy camera on her phone and make a surprise video by editing her ‘cute expressions’, he thinks there can be no better way than this to surprise my wife.
Of course, there is a lot of convenient writing with this plotline. The fact that this guy thought invading his wife’s privacy and compiling her ‘cute expressions’ was the best gift he could give her on their anniversary is already an issue. But what he sees through the camera looks more like some compiled moments that were carefully chosen by the makers for us to see.
The problem with Athomugam is that the editing, cinematography and music are all individually good. But it doesn’t hit as hard when you put them all together. The background score by Saran Raghavan amplifies everything happening on screen. The score being not subtle isn’t an issue, but because sometimes it gets too loud, we clearly feel like without the background score something is missing in the scenes.
The cast fails to make an impact and couple of dialogues are unintentionally funny including one that goes, ‘Only if chicken dies we can get 65.’ Even then few scenes give you cinematic high including climax portions also.Irrespective of its flaws, the makers have successfully kept us interested in it throughout the runtime.
But Athomugam fails to be lucid. When a character reenters with an amplified background music and the protagonist shocked at seeing that man gives us cue to be shocked at seeing that character again, but by then we have completely forgotten that character that takes a second to register who it even is.
