There are three famous films with this title. There’s Obsession with Josh Hartnett and Diane Kruger that we wrote about earlier, and there’s the musical drama with Jonathan Simmons and Miles Teller. And then there’s Emily Blunt and Susan Sarandon. The latter plays a successful illustrator, mother, and wife, Sophie, who has a seemingly perfect and happy life. And so it goes for a while until the heroine notices that someone is watching her. Someone who wants to steal everything from her: her things, her pet, her family, and maybe even her life.

Of course, after The Artist and Love Not Fit, it’s hard to imagine Jean Dujardin in a thriller or drama. So don’t imagine, but rather watch. In the same film, the actor plays the role of a policeman who investigates the murder of his own daughter. Despite the fact that the perpetrator is found and confessed to what he had done, the main character suspects that he confessed to the crime under duress, and decides to start his own investigation.

Gritty, gripping, and so frighteningly real… That’s probably a way to describe Danny Villeneuve’s drama, The Fires. It has it all: intrigue to the very end, the plot, and a strong story of human destinies. The main characters, twins Jeanne and Simon, after the death of their mother, learn that in their homeland – Lebanon – they were left with a brother, which they did not know about, and his father, who was presumed dead. Following their mother’s will, first Jeanne and then Simone travel to Lebanon to finally learn the truth about their mother’s life. And that truth may prove all too cruel. The film has more than a dozen awards and an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film.
