2012 Supernova

2012 Supernova

2012: supernova is a direct to video action scifi disaster movie which was produced by The Asylum’s a company that majorly produces mockbusters.

It was directed by Anthony Fankhauser (Gacy House (2010), Shadow People (2011)).

It was written by Jon Macy and Anthony Fankhauser and Jon Willis III, with a instant classic repertoire including such masterpieces as Merlin and the War of the Dragons (2008), In the Blink of an Eye (2009), and Tsunami Beach Club (2008).

Cast includes: Brian Krause, Heather McComb, Najarra Townsend, Allura Lee, Alan Poe, Londale Theus, Stephen Schneider and others.

Beginning with a broad shot of CG outer space wasn’t the best way for the director to go about his work. It’s not something particularly repelling as there’s nothing in real life to compare it to, so it’s pretty much any gaming cutscene out there.

The movie features Brian Krause who most people, myself included, remember from the Charmed TV show and if you have seen it, you can tell he does not possess a lot of talent or appeal to the audience, however, he is a household name and an experienced performer. By The Asylum standards. He is, in a word, mediocre. The problem is that he has only one emotion worried.

I was quite glad not to spend several scenes before the characters are introduced, Krause, his wife and daughter just show up and within a minute someone is chasing them. After that it drags for a little to give us background details, and quite fortunately, it is useless information. In Asylum films, the story is merely the context in which everything occurs.

At some point, Krause is separated from his wife and daughter. He goes ahead to do something in a ‘space’ facility thing. I don’t know. Krause has been assaulted many times for no reason by someone out in the space facility and I found out who it was but even forgot and then they made me remember it again and made in the end a big ‘twist’ out of it. Swiping to the other side of the story, there was a female who too had a big part and the sad side was her husband was till the end alive.

The wife and daughter come back to their intended destination but are compelled to depart separately to another where? Yup, I did not seem to care a lot. And, by the way, the wife and the daughter appear to have a very small difference in age. She must have been not older than 12 when she gave birth to him. Dirty rascal you, Krause! What makes this plot line far more appealing than the dull ones with a worried face of Krause seeing a concerned scientist who happens to be his colleague: some disgruntled scientist and Krause some weird fellow. They meet a strange farmer on their way and they run for their life from a huge disaster that I mean what made this movie called 2012 fun and of course the weird farmer.

While the title gives off a hint of a 2012 rip-off, they had made three pictures under the title ’2012’ and while they are all similar to certain specific films the ’2012’ simply means ” we considered it to be just another disaster movie. To be honest, some of the action can be categorized as good dis-considering their budget, so it’s not really an ‘action filled’ movie.

Sadly, we have to endure painfully long segments in which the quite obvious low budget sci-fi disaster movies with boring characters and plots you do not even care to comprehend interlaced with terribly sappy scenes attempt to convince us that this isn’t the case. The whole sequence is built up as ‘action scene stupid science dialogue action some science (the one that is always fiction) action science” its target audience most probably do not consider the genre to be ‘Another Bastardized Science Movie’ The foundations are simple: the movie is strange and there is science in it.”

Essentially, it’s a terrible Asylum film but luckily that’s the reason why I am watching it only, but what I expected was some visually pleasing and bloody B-grade movie footage, but instead, I was bored because how boring the entire movie was, except for a few well-portrayed action scenes which nevertheless did not make the movie worth the watch. Don’t go and see it.
